2. From where did you get the name Float Down The Liffey? And, please tell us the history of the band’s formation.
→FLOAT DOWN THE LIFFEYという名前はどこから来たのですか？また、バンドの結成の経緯を教えてください。
【English】
We took the name from Radiohead’s lyric, How To Disappear Completely. we decided this from among the candidate list of favorite band’s lyric. about the formation, we formed the former band with friends at university. And then, the bassist were leaving the band, and Nishi Takeshi came join us, and then we change the band name into Float Down The Liffey.

3. We can say that FDTL is a shoegazer, but your sound is little different (from an usual shoegaze band). Can you please explain to us your kind of music?
→ FLOAT DOWN THE LIFFEYはシューゲイザーと言えば、シューゲイザーなんですけど、サウンドがちょっと違います。FDTLの音楽性を説明していただけませんか？
【English】
I think the main focus of our music is Japanese, Europe and American pop, rock, and alternative rock. There, we’re using the element combines metal and shoegazer.

僕らの音楽の中心にあるのは、日本や欧米のポップス、Rock、Alternative Rockだと思っています。 そこへ、シューゲイザーやメタルの要素を取り入れている感覚ですね。
4. Why do you want to play shoegaze?
→ なんでシューゲイズをやりたいですか？
【English】
we don’t really want to play shoegaze, when we do a live perform we’re often filled the venue with sound. and the rest, we’ve got an influence from our favorite bands (laughter).

シューゲイザーをやりたい、という感覚はあまり無くて、ライブをしてるときに会場を音で埋め尽くしたいというのが大きいです。 あとは、好きなバンドの影響ですね（笑）
5. This is what I want to ask to all the member personally. We’re so glad if you could tell us. What is the meaning of ‘shoegaze’ to you?
→これは一人一人のメンバーに聞きたい事です。教えてくれたら、嬉しいです。自分にとって「シューゲイズ」はどういう意味を持っていますか？
【English】
Ichikawa: it’s difficult... because I knew shoegaze from COTD and My Bloody Valentine, so I guess I got a big influence from those bands. I think maybe the pile up of distortion sound and reverb, and making the wall of sound is one of an important thing on shoegaze. so it means, maybe Tomorrow Never Knows or I Want You from The Beatles, which I listen from the old days, was my first experience of listening shoegaze (laughter)
Mukai: people always caught the reflection of shoegaze from the perform style and the image, but I think it doesn’t show the negativity but a pure pop.

・イチカワ難しいですね…。僕がシューゲイザーを知ったのが、Coaltar Of The DeepersとMy Bloody Valentineからなので、その2バンドの影響が大きいと思います。ディストーションサウンドとリバーブを重ねて、音の壁を作ることがシューゲイザーの一つの要素なのかなと。そういう意味では、僕が昔から聞いていたThe Beatlesの"Tomorrow Never Knows"や"I Want You"なんかは、僕にとって初めてのシューゲイザー体験だったかもしれません（笑）
・ムカイ
シューゲイザーは演奏スタイルやイメージから内省的なものと捉えられがちですが、必ずしも後ろ向きなことを表現しているわけではなくて本質なポップなものだと俺は考えてます。
6. What do you think about Japanese shoegaze scene?
→日本のシューゲイズ・シーンについてどう思いますか？
【English】
If we talk about famous bands, there is Coaltar Of The Deepers, Cruyff In The Bedroom, Luminous Orange etc who represent japanese shoegazer, between the alternative or guitar rock so-called bands, there is a lot of them who use an element of shoegaze. And the other band, like indie or amateur bands, they’re using a lot of elements of shogaze, or even a fast cut shoegaze. So of course I think shoegaze will grow forward.

有名なところで言えば、Coaltar Of The Deepersやcruyff in the bedroom、Luminous Orangeなどの日本を代表するシューゲイザーバンドもいますし、 オルタナやギターロックと呼ばれるバンドの中にもシューゲイザーの要素を取り入れているバンドが多くいますよね。 その他にも、インディーやアマチュアバンドの中にも直球のシューゲイザーだったり、要素を取り入れていたりするバンドが多くいるので、今後更に盛り上がって行くのかなと思っています。
7. Sunny days E.P. was released on January this year, please tell us the story behind your music and songwriting.
→ Sunny days E.P.は今年の一月にもうリリースされました。曲の背景や、曲の作り方を教えてください。
【English】
1. Fade To Blue
Fade to blue, our first song originally was using the second song, white blur’s intro. we made it connected. when we recorded it into CD, we didn’t use the arpeggio guitar and we expressed it such way.
2. White Blur
This song composed by Yamagishi. Because at the phase of demo making, he quite got crafted in songs, so while we perform in on the band, we did some arrangement. We connected it from the first song, the image feels like start from the dawn until the sun rises.
3. Sunnydays
Yamagishi also composed this song. At first we want to arrange it different, but finally we made it at the end. You can find the last part on the middle. we did that in order to make it easier to band. then, because in sabi won’t be a melody just with a humming, so I created the melody for sabi*)
4. Argyi
This song is Ichikawa’s composition. We almost put this on demo step, but we have to perform it approximately to demo. Actually this demo has done in the beginning of 2011, but the sabi can hardly finished and the making of demo was discontinued. when we decided to make a new song and listening to the previous demo, we could make the sabi and it becoming current form.

1. Fade To Blue1曲目のFade To Blueは、元々、2曲目のWhite Blurのイントロだったんです。 ライブでは繋げてやっていました。 それを今回音源化するにあたって、ギターのアルペジオではなくこういう形で表現しました。
2. White Blur
この曲はヤマギシの作曲です。彼はデモの段階でかなり作り込んでくるので、それをバンドで演奏しながらアレンジをしていく感じです。 1曲目から繋がっていて、夜明け～朝をイメージしています。
3. Sunnydays
この曲もヤマギシの作曲です。この曲は最初アレンジが異なっていて、最後の部分が真ん中にあったんですよ。 それをバンドでやりやすいようにアレンジしましたね。 あと、サビがハミングだけでメロディが無かったので、サビのメロディは僕(イチカワ)が付けました。
4. Argyi
この曲はイチカワの作曲です。この曲はデモの段階でほとんど作り込んでいて、ほぼデモ通りに演奏してもらいました。 実は、この曲のデモは2011年の頭にはできていたのですが、サビがなかなかできなくて、制作を中断していました。新しい曲を作ることになって、以前のデモを聞いていたときにサビができて今の形になりました。
8. After listening to Sunny days E.P. I really likes Argyi. What is the meaning of ‘Argyi’ itself?
→Sunny days E.P.を聞いたら「Argyi」がすごく好きなんです。「Argyi」という言葉はどういう意味ですか？
【English】
In science, the plant called Akane (madder) actually is ‘Rubia Argyi’. We took the last name and it becoming ‘Argyi’. On the lyric, I sang about the sky color of sunset, in Japan the sky color on evening could be called as akane iro (red), that’s why we put ‘Argyi’.

"argyi"というのは、アカネ(madder)という植物の学名で、本当は"Rubia argyi"っていうんです。それの後ろをとって"argyi"にしました。 歌詞の中で夕焼けのことを歌っていて、日本では夕暮れの空の色を茜色と呼ぶことがあるので、そこからargyiとつけました。
9. What do you want to express on FDTL’s lyric?
→FDTLの歌詞で何を表現したいのですか？
【English】
There is almost no common theme in all lyrics. if we had a song tells about the beginning and the end, then we also had just about love song (laughter)

全ての歌詞に共通するテーマというのはあまり無いんですよ。終わりと始まりのことを歌ってる曲もあれば、単なるラブソングもあります（笑）
10. I have seen FDTL’s video live on youtube, do you have an interest to do an overseas live? And, where do you want to do a live?
→YoutubeでFDTLのライブ動画を見た事があって外国にライブする興味がありますか？また、どこにライブをしたいですか？
【English】
we’re really interested to have a live perform in oversea or in our township. I want to have a contact with band outside Japan or even the culture, and I also want to make a friend with the musicians I adore. if we get a chance to be invited, we want to do live performance anywhere. not only USA or Europe, we also want to try to visiting Asia.

日本以外の国や地域でライブをすることにはとても興味があります。 日本以外のバンドや文化に直接触れてみたいと思っていますし、海外の音楽好きな方々と友達になりたいと思ってます。 誘って頂ければ、どこでもやりたいと思っています。 アメリカやヨーロッパだけでなく、アジアにも行ってみたいですね。
11. If you can perform together with your favorite band or musician (overseas or local), with who do you want to perform?
→大好きなバンドとかミュージシアン（外国とか内国）と一緒に演奏することができれば何のバンドとかミュージシアンと演奏しますか？
【English】
Right now, we want to perform together with Japanese band, CAUCUS. I think it’ll be great if we can perform together with the other favorite bands.

今一番対バンしたいのはCAUCUSという日本のバンドですね。 他にも好きなバンドと対バンすることができればいいなと考えています。
12. Icchie the vocalist also doing a solo project. What kind of song do you want to create? Do you have a favorite soloist?
→ ヴォーカリストのIcchieさんはソロ・プロジェックトもやっています。どんな音楽を作りたいですか？そして、好きなソロイストがいるんですか？
【English】
Personally, I want try to do many things that I can’t do on the band. In the contrary, if I want to do the things I can do in the band, so I won’t do solo as much as possible. because I have an interest to ambient music, electronica, and hip hop, I want to create a song such like that. my favorite soloist is Nujabes, Narasaki (from Coaltar Of The Deepers), Oyamada Keigo (Cornelius) and Tokumaru Shuugo.

個人では、バンドではできないことを色々やってみたいと思ってます。逆にバンドでできることはバンドでやりたいと思ってるので、なるべくソロではやらないようにしてます。 アンビエントミュージックやエレクトロニカ、ヒップホップにも興味があるので、そういった曲を作っていきたいですね。 好きなのソロの方は、nujabesさんやNARASAKIさん(Coaltar Of The Deepers)、小山田圭吾さん(Cornelius)、トクマルシューゴさんなどですね。
13. About the leaving of the drummer, with the vacant position, what is FDTL’s activity now?
→ドラマーの脱退の件で、今の空虚でFDTLの活動は何でしょうか？
【English】
Oh yeah, we’re just fixed a new member, but before that we creating song without entering studio, and we kept searching for new member. Soon after the member left us, our mood goes down, and we discussed it to our friend who also doing a band. Because of their support, now we could take back our spirit and we’re really thank them.

そうですね…。先日新しいメンバーが決まったのですが、それまではスタジオにも入らず曲を作ったり、メンバーを探したりしていましたね。 メンバーが抜けた直後は、やっぱり気分も落ちていて、バンドマンの友人に相談していました。友人に励まされて、やる気を取り戻せたので、友人たちには感謝しています。
14. Beside the band, does FDTL’s member have another job?
→FDTLのメンバーはバンド以外に他の仕事がありますか？
【English】
Right now, 3 of us is students. and the other one is a freeter.

今のところ、３人が学生です。一人はフリーターです。

→FDTLの外国のリスナーに何かメッセージをお願いします。
【English】
